However, then there is a new book called "Enlightenment now!" written by a psychologist

This book makes the also very good point that most people in the world "NEVER HAD IT AS GOOD AS THEY DO NOW EVER BEFORE IN HUMAN HISTORY!

And this is true also. The point is that never have more people had more quality of life here on earth before now. 

Consider for example, the life expectancy of a white man and woman at age 20 in 1815 was age 39 or 38 respectively here in the U.S.

Whereas if you live to be 30 you can expect to see 90 here in the U.S. now.

There's a reason to be worried and also a reason to be grateful that you are not suffering like your ancestors did just to make it to 40 years of age average life expectancy in 1815.

Since 1815 in America a white man and a white woman have gained approximately 50 years in lifespan and this is the kind of thing  happening worldwide now more and more.
