Highway 17 from Santa Cruz to San Jose is really dangerous during Rainstorms here

Especially at night when temperatures are low this just makes the road called "Blood Alley" by locals worse. Why?

Because when it is cold enough you can see freezing rain or hail or even snow On this freeway. If you aren't local you won't be expecting this and this is the danger. Today they said they had 16 accidents traveling over Highway 17 from Santa Cruz to San Jose today.

Even on good days with perfect weather I won't travel Highway 17 because I consider it to be just too dangerous unless I consider it to be enough of an emergency to chance driving over this highway. The problem is it is like a freeway with sharp turns. So, it is sort of like all these local race car drivers on a race track over this thing.

So, if you aren't used to driving over this it is easily a terrifying experience. So, mostly I'm just saying this for tourists because the locals have "Learned" to survive on this highway.

So, if it's raining try to go some other way from Santa Cruz to San Jose or from San Jose to Santa Cruz.

My thought is it's better to stay alive and to take a longer route, especially if you are a tourist and not used to how locals drive on "Blood Alley" the local racetrack of a freeway.
