Traveling

Traveling can be wonderful or terrible or both at the same time. Like many people say, "An adventure is a difficult experience well managed."

And Traveling is ALWAYS an adventure if you are somewhat satisfied and don't die or have serious problems that aren't easy to rectify.

So, Traveling usually becomes an adventure and a challenge sort of like playing chess. So, I'm thinking people liked the idea of a challenge in life rather than to be bored doing the same thing over and over day after day.

Also, as you get older the more you challenge yourself both physically and psychologically the longer you will tend to live as well. It doesn't mean traveling is easy, sometimes it can be very very difficult especially the further you get from home where people might not even speak your own native language at all.

I think one of the harder times for me was the first day or two in Thailand in 1985 when we first arrived. When I flew through Japan to get there at least there were some people willing to speak English to us at the Airport in Narito. But, in Thailand we could find almost no one willing to speak English to us which we found to be quite a challenge, especially finding which bus to get on in Bangkok going which direction because we were then trying to get to the Nepalese Embassy to get a tourist visa for the whole family at that time. I had already gotten a 2 or 3 month visa for India in the U.S. but since San Francisco then I think didn't have a Nepalese Embassy I couldn't get a tourist visa for Nepal until I got to Bangkok Thailand. On the bus we met a lady who was about 35 to 45 and a Student who spoke English from College in Cairo, Egypt who was from Malaysia. So, we wound up hiring the student to travel and bargain for us because there were no set prices for food and taxis and other things then. This way we wouldn't be taken advantage of financially as foreignors to Thailand.

Nairoosee(the college student traveled with us to Koi Samed Island off the coast of Bangkok where we snorkled in amazing tropical waters for a week there. So, being adaptable and innovative sort of like playing chess is really really important while traveling in this style. So, by traveling this way often you can save up to 50% by being innovative in the moment using Lonely planet Travel guide.

Note: What you will often find in Asia is people who can understand English but are embarrassed to speak it because they don't want to be shamed for having an accent or just a fear of Western Barbarians in general. So, because you often are bigger than them (average height often 4 foot 6 to 5 foot 6 in Asia), if you are taller like 5 foot 10 to 6 foot 5 like myself, you will be seen as a giant and either very fearful or King like (either of which might terrify the locals, especially those uneducated or who have not yet traveled the world.
