During the 1930s was the last time people had to escape into Fantasy like they are having to now. The Stock market had collapsed. There were no jobs if you were college educated (unless you knew the right people). People were starving to death without jobs or places to live because they couldn't afford a home because they didn't have jobs. People died like flies here in the U.S. People try to forget just how bad the 1930s were. Movies like "Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs" and "The Wizard of Oz" set the stage for World War II. The Civilian Conservation Core was Created by the government to employ people which built things like the Hoover Dam and Timberline Lodge up on Mt. Hood that I still love to stay at so people had jobs instead of starving. People lived in Tents along rivers with no hope of ever getting a job.
But, what I find is the same now is people's need to escape the harsh realities of life. Some see no future and take opioids. 73,000 have already died this year from opioids by the way more than have died in Traffic accidents in the U.S.
This might not seem like a very big number to you but we are only halfway through the year or so.
However, some of us have to have a hold on reality in order for civilization to continue. Some of us must be self disciplined enough for there to be some useful civilization out the other side of all this or we are all toast.
