I first wrote about Arcane in 1980 but he resembled slightly the being in "The Shape of Water" in some ways. The webbing between fingers and toes and the fact that Arcane's version was genetically engineered form 25th Century Human Stock set 1 million years into the future on the planet New Deva.
So, the similarities to me are obvious in some ways between the being in the Shape of Water and Arcane. But, the differences are great as well. Arcane, with a shortened tongue that could speak English (or any other language on Earth) instead of a 9 inch tongue normal for New Devans for living underwater on New Deva the planet. Arcane has the webbing between his fingers and toes removed so longhand writing is possible and manipulation of physical things is easier too. I noticed last night the being in the shape of water didn't really have webbing much between his fingers but did have well developed claws used to great effect in the end of the movie. LIke the "Shape of Water" being Arcane has the capacity to heal both mentally and physically as well.
So, since I'm writing Chapters 12 through 16 the similarities on some levels between Arcane and the being in the Shape of Water left me speechless at times. But, remember Arcane can speak and interact with present day humans since 1987 when he first arrived on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco from the Galactic Time Guard Headquarters near the center of our Galaxy. But, what is interesting to me is that Arcane is from the planet New Deva about 1 million years into the future but is also descended from 25th century Earth people like us.
