People who are gone soon after retiring often have nothing to do but drink themselves to death soon. So, if you want to live a long time after retiring often you need disciplines to do that. It could be walking your dogs, taking care of yourself and your spouse, caring for a horse or horses, taking care of a farm, traveling.
Traveling is a really good one that takes you out of your normal ruts in life. It forces you to be adaptable, dealing with new people you might not have met before or meeting people you have known your whole lives. But, traveling I find gives me the most challenges to overcome, stimulates my mind and body in various ways and keeps me sharp in my mind and not just repeating the same patterns and ruts over and over again until one dies from boredom alone.
So, having an active mind and body and having hope for the future for you and your family is important to your longevity and peace and overall happiness in life. They all work together. People don't usually live very long unless they have hope and some semblance of happiness. Anger doesn't take you very far unless it is very very strategic anger that's very disciplined and in control completely.
So, it's important to solve problems when they are small before they get out of hand and become unsolvable in your life.
I think I learned this in my early 20s when I found this to be true. It's better to nip problems in the bud at the first sign of trouble or else those problems will sometimes create a fatal outcome in your life or others lives.
Learning to be compassionate and efficient in your lives helps create longevity for you and for everyone around you.
