But, that's really it. For example, FDR had to lie to the American people about Pearl Harbor to get them to fight Japan and Germany because the whole U.S. was pacifist then and led by Lindberg who was the first to fly across the Atlantic in I think 1927. But, by lying to the American people FDR got them to fight in World War II and about 1 million Americans died in this war (mostly civilians).
However, if FDR hadn't done this it is quite likely that Hitler would have eventually invaded the U.S. and nuked Washington DC and New York and the U.S. likely would be a NAZI nation right now. And possibly on one or more other time lines this is what actually happened.
However, Trump is so dysfunctional he would never be useful to the world like FDR was at that time.
