I have long thought the moon was a large piece of Maldek the planet that is now the asteroid belt

 In fact, for a long time I have thought that most moons in the solar system actually were created when Maldek was nuked out of existence by a nuclear war on Maldek. This happened around 65 million years ago and another piece of the destroyed planet eventually landed on the Yucatan Peninsula and the nuclear winter type of cloud killed all the larger dinosaurs that didn't migrate into the oceans of the world.

It makes therefore perfect sense that the moon would still be highly radiated from being a part of a nuclear war on Maldek still 65 million years later. Or it could also mean that the Chinese or Russians have nuclear weapons or a nuclear power plant going on on the back side of the moon (one or all these things might be true at once).

Here's how the planet ended on Maldek. 

Three nuclear bombs were dropped at the corners of a triangle. However, this blew up the entire mantle of the planet down to the core where it is molten lava. Because this was near a lake or ocean the exposed lava core of the planet interacted with the oceans or lake nearby which caused steam explosions of a magnitude never seen on earth in recorded history to take place. This kept blowing chunks of water and steam and land and rocks up into the air or in some cases into space ongoing until the whole planet now out of balance like a top with pieces out of it couldn't spin right anymore and pieces started going in all directions. This didn't just happen overnight but took likely a few weeks to a month before the atmosphere couldn't be breathed by humanoids(our ancestors) anymore and their lungs came out of their mouths from low air pressure because the air kept getting vented into space by the explosions along with the water and earth and metals and rocks.

At least 99% of the people on Maldek died slowly during these weeks and months from various causes. The worst way to go was likely suffocation or burning to death from the magma but there were many ways people died and many killed themselves.

However, some people in the militaries of Maldek Survived and some families of politicians survived and were sent into space in pods where they could watch on TV everyone die which made many of them crazy except for younger people about 10 to 20 were able to deal with all this the best long term.

A piece of the planet that is now our moon was slowly transported to circle earth and it might be one reason why wolves still howl at the moon the way Maldekians cried when they first arrived here looking up at a part of their beloved Planet which was all that was left and salvageable.
