Finally, this afternoon the smoke went higher which still occluded Mt. Shasta (and most other surrounding mountains as well) But you were finally able to breathe better because the smoke was at least higher than the tree top mostly. So, you weren't going to be coughing from being in it unless maybe you were trying to jog or ride a bicycle in it. I found that when I went on a walk in a nearby park that even in the morning if I wore a paper mask I was okay and wasn't coughing or having problems.
Later in the day I drove up to Bunny Flat with a friend (because they have closed the road at Bunny flat) and you cannot drive up to Panther Meadows anymore until next summer some time. Also, they are not allowing camping anywhere in the national forest on Mt. Shasta but I think people are still climbing the mountain because the Sierra Club Lodge is private property and not national forest. So, if people want to climb mt. Shasta likely they can camp around Horse Camp Sierra Club Lodge and then climb the mountain from there the next day. Also, no campfires are allowed in the area either because of the extreme dryness lately. Today went up to around 90 degrees by the way here in Mt. Shasta and the low last night was about 49 so we are definitely moving into Fall weather (at least at night). By October 31st temperatures as low as 32 are pretty normal by then at night as the lowest temperature of the day.
