This is why you are seeing locals in Lake Tahoe wondering why people aren't staying home because this is a large area. Whereas Mt. Shasta is a small recreational community of around 3200 full time residents and many tourists coming and going from all over the world. For example, the largest of the cities around Lake Tahoe is South Lake Tahoe which all by itself is 22,036 people. So, the risk of infection of tourists coming to both the Nevada as well as all the California cities becomes really serious for the locals because of this whereas Mt. Shasta isn't complaining (as far as I know) about tourists coming because people's financial survival more depends upon tourists in Mt. Shasta and there are many less of them compared to Lake Tahoe. However, it is also true that I heard that coronavirus had closed one or more restaurants in Mt. Shasta. So, there were less open when I was there even for take out.
