Parts of some summers I lived a life like you see in Stand By Me(1986)
The parts about boys walking along a Train Tracks over a river and climbing up high on the trestle of the train bridges going across rivers with friends. We used to walk and play and talk between Shasta Springs and MossSpray falls near Dunsmuir down the Railroad tracks there along the Sacramento River. President Theodore Roosevelt visited Shasta Springs by Train around 1900 or so and rode the Tram that was there then (until around 1950 I believe) up to Shasta Springs which was a resort that people went to for the mineral volcanic water there and clear fresh water for health reasons then. My experiences were very similar to what the boys did in this movie as friends. Firecrackers, Cherry Bombs, rolling boulders and climbing railroad trestles while trains went underneath us then. This would be from 1953 summers until 1960 and then after I was 15 until 21 as well. But, 15 to 21 there were also girlfriends and in 1968 I had a new 1968 Camaro from working in the computer field and going to college at the same time. So, everything kept changing a lot then and it still does all these years later. Though no one died then the feeling of angst and the unknown and the 1950s up to about 1963 rings true in this movie. Stephen King's friend actually died when hit by a train which likely inspired this autobiographical account of his youth in some ways. You can see how a young friend dying might have influenced what he has written as an adult.
When I was 8 my cousin died in a car accident when he was 16 and first learning to drive. So, this aspect of my own life also relates to angst this movie.
