Conditions like this one usually close Highway 1 up to 3 to 6 months when the road at certain locations goes into the ocean from water and mud flows. One year I believe it was 1995 it was closed for a 30 mile or more stretch with no paved roads to escape on. So, if people didn't have 4 wheel drives they were stuck between Big Sur and the Carmel River which washed out the Bridge on Highway one there in 1995 I believe.
So, if you are a tourist you might want to leave if you are anywhere in the Big Sur Area because of what is going to happen starting tomorrow night. If you live there it's a whole different story but that could also be problematic for locals too.
So, in about 8 to 12 hours you might receive 13 inches of Rain which could be catastrophic and life threatening!
