The ONLY non-magnetic Media in regard to computers I'm thinking are Cd's DVD's and hard copy paper

WHEN the Solar Flare hits (at any time possibly in the next few hundred years?) it will devastate magnetic media (in other words if it is above 10 feet underground it may be permanently gone. This would be true for people whose hard drives are both resident and removable as well as thumb drives and tapes and VHS etc could be gone (the magnetics scrambled and permanently unusable ever after).

So, you could imagine the trillions of dollars of real losses for people who don't have their data backed up on some kind of non-magnetic media like paper or Cd's or DVDs on the half of the planet hit by a Solar flare the size of the Carrington event.

In addition to this electric cars might stop working with their microchips fried. It's not certain what happens then (hopefully they just stop and aren't self driving where thousands of people die with no back up controls like Steering wheels or brakes as safety devices.

Also, planes like passenger planes don't have wires between the control surfaces and yoke (steering wheels and pedals) simply because it isn't practical to do that because of the distances involved. If you are flying a Cessna 152 or even a 172 or piper Tri-pacer or whatever you can have physical wires from the yoke to the control surfaces of a plane but larger aircraft need electronic assists to do this and they could all fry so you would have complete loss of control (by the pilot) at that point on the half of the planet fried by the Carrington Level Solar Flare hitting earth. In a nuclear blast big enough the same thing would happen by the way where thousands of passenger planes likely would fall out of the sky in the same moments too raining down on everyone below at random on 1/2 of the planet hit by the solar flare.

This is unbelievable to contemplate but eventually (given the laws of probability) it will happen one day taking thousands of lives and costing trillions of dollars in damage to at least 1/2 of the planet then facing the sun and the flare.

However, how many of you realistically saw Coronavirus doing this to the world either before it happened in your wildest dreams?
