Kevlar is often now used for military helmets used to stop lower caliber bullets or fragmentation from grenades like from rocket launched grenades or hand thrown ones. But, it was originally discovered and reverse engineered from remnants of the Roswell craft along with microchips discovered there too that now reverse engineered power your laptop, cell phone, etc. now here on earth.
So, even though governments won't usually talk to you about stuff like this you can read:

But, if I remember correctly his description of how the Kevlar was used was as a stretched fabric over the outside of the UFO frame which sounds kind of sketchy to me but obviously the design parameters were different than what we would use.
From this point of view I think I would see the Roswell Craft as more like a movable parachute more like a Paraglider which is a parachute and a glider combined. Or you could see it as a highly refined bicycle or electric bicycle. It's true if you had a mother ship maybe all you need is something more like an air motorcycle that moves really fast to avoid weapons thrown up at it. So, it would be a minimalist design in this case sort of like a paraglider or racing bicycle might also be.
Imagine your technology is millions of years old and refined for maximum efficiency. You might eliminate many things we would be using in this era just because of the way your civilization and technology has evolved over millions of years. For example, the pilot of the Roswell craft was a part of the technology of the ship they found too and it flew with a special helmet tied in directly to the brain waves of the pilot's mind.
