Lightning fires caused most of the worst fires in California in the last year or so

The Lava Fire just north of Weed, California is another lightning caused fire that started on Friday. My friends in Mt. Shasta ( I have 3 sets of friends that own 2 1/2 acres there or more that are very worried right now). The problem is that the prevailing winds are southbound there which could bring the fire first through the city of Weed and on into Mt. Shasta if they can't get it out in the next week or so. They've got it 25% contained but that doesn't mean much if the part they have contained is upwind of the fire itself.

Also, winds change throughout the day up in that area with winds going up canyons during the heat of the day and down at night. So, this makes fires very unpredictable especially on really hot days above 100 degrees like right now. Also, firefighters have to be careful not to pass out from heat prostration in the middle of the day too and heat thermals also affect the flight patterns of aircraft whether they be borate bombers (planes) or helicopters with water buckets that they fill in local lakes or pools in streams or wherever.

So, needless to say the people in Weed and Mt. Shasta are pretty scared right now because of the Lava fire because the conditions will tend to take this fire directly into Weed and Mt. Shasta right down Interstate 5 given the prevailing winds there. Right now it is just off of Highway 97 so let's hope for the best.
