There is a movie "Stand By me"(1986)

And it more accurately than any movie I have ever seen depicts exactly what my life was like growing up in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Though it was originally written by Stephen King it still is a classic of what life was like then. He perfectly depicts the pathos of those times more than anything I have ever seen written and put into a movie before regarding growing up during that era because he was also around my age then and now I believe.

What I mean by the comment regarding Stephen King is that he usually writes Horror only. However, this is one of the most honest films about what it was like to be a boy in the late 1950s and early 1960s I have ever seen. It is about boys trying to survive their lives and grow up and not die before they are 20 or 30 and some succeeding and some not. I watched friends die or live and it all always seemed very quixotic as to who lived and who died and who made it through to 30 or more years old. I'm not really sure what it is to be a boy growing up now but this is exactly what it was like for me growing up then.
