Though it is a western set in Oregon and California in 1851 while the Gold Rush was still going on it is not a

traditional western in the Clint Eastwood style. It might be in some ways more realistic but also very eccentric the

way many people likely were then. Even in the 1950s I met people in California and the western states that reminded

me some of the people in this movie so there is a certain kind of accuracy to this movie like the way guns sounded (not

like guns of today but the way older guns would have sounded with flashes of light and smoke from those guns at night.

So, you get that sort of more authentic feeling to this movie where people die more in some ways than you might

expect but there is also a realism on some levels to this movie that you might not find in traditional western movies.

So, in some ways it is a real treat if you are prepared for it regarding being more authentic in some ways than

other more stylized westerns through the years. I found this one on HULU tonight. It is free once you are in Hulu there.

The only thing I'm aware of might be cyanide for refining Gold but I'm not sure that's what the writer of the "Sisters Brothers"

had in mind. It's the only thing that I remember being this dangerous in places like Alaska and California and Colorado then.

I think the only place it is allowed in the U.S. might be Nevada now if they haven't made it illegal yet there.
