Why?
Because the whole system was NOT set up to work during a world wide Plague or pandemic like we have now on earth. So, unless changes are made regarding supply chain workers more and more of them are going to quit and do something else just like Nurses are quitting Hospitals full of Covid because they don't want to die.
Being stuck on board ship for months at a time is going to make people quit when ships aren't unloaded quickly enough. It's not just the truck drivers transporting goods to localities all over the world who are affected. It is the ships themselves stuck in places like the Port of Long Beach near Los Angeles waiting weeks to unload because of changes to the system caused by the pandemic.
If the system cannot sustain workers because they are being mistreated because of the worldwide pandemic then the system will collapse. It is very simple. If the system collapses like it is moving towards now, goods and services will become much more expensive or they will become unobtainable one or both.
