I think the ocean and the nice climate and area are reasons why so many famous people live here. Also, it is within an hour or two drive (if there is no traffic) to Hollywood and most Los Angeles County destinations. So, it is possible to do work in Los Angeles County and live in Santa Barbara where the climate is nice and there is basically no smog much ever.
