Counseling is another option if you can get it. whether it is from a minister or priest or whether it is counseling by family or professionals, it is important to talk through things with others before you kill yourself or others.
In my 20s I also dealt with feelings of wanting to end it all because I saw my life wasn't going to be what I thought it could be. Even though by my 30s my life was much better than I ever thought it could be, surviving my 20s was nearly impossible for me.
So, if you are college age especially getting counseling is vital often for your survival.
But, counseling can also be counterproductive if you are talking to someone who doesn't share your basic belief system. For example, if you are an atheist and you are going to a fundamentalist minister for counseling that might not work at all and be counterproductive to both of you in many different ways.
So, counseling can be a life saver only if you are talking to people who share some or all of your beliefs about life.
So, rather than shooting yourself or other people or making police shoot you by pointing a gun at them maybe you need to seek counseling from someone you like or agree with somewhat?
For me, my salvation (not dying) began with me reading a Psychology today magazine around 1970 in the library for Palomar College in San Marcos California. I realized soon after studying the basic precepts of psychology that if I wanted to survive to be 25 or 30 that I needed to let go of most of my pride and to reduce down to what actually was going to keep me alive ongoing.
So, letting go of anything that didn't keep me alive kept me alive. Then when my live in girlfriend got pregnant when I was 26 I had to drop out of college where I was studying then to be a psychologist to keep my marriage working and to raise our son. This made me focus on starting businesses and working to support my wife and son and took my mind off of me completely. This, for me, was a very good thing because I'm best when other people need me (although everyone is different in this).
So, because I like being a family man with a family this worked for me and has made my life ever since a success in every way.
