when you see corgis that are usually black and white instead of Pembrokes which are usually brown and white:

 The Blue Merle Corgi comes from the black and white ones because the Pembroke doesn't carry the blue Merle Gene. It's sort of like being a redhead with blue eyes in humans. In other words Blue Merles are rare and often have blue eyes. Ours has one fully blue eye and one that is part brown and part blue.

However, this is a really great dog for a family even though they are very intelligent and loving and compatible. But, remember all sheparding breeds are extremely intelligent and very independent so they are likely less obedient generally than other dogs but still are great family dogs.
