This is the real problem that I see. So, only by preparing now for where these nukes might hit could you avoid becoming melted or incinerated in reality. But, the other way to look at it is that you likely would never even know what hit you. In other words by the time you knew something was happening your body would already be gone. So, in this sense it would be a painless and quick death and you likely would have no real knowledge of it, before, during or after.
