Our dogs

As I grew up my parents didn't allow me to have a dog or a cat because of their belief system. So, I made do with parakeets and Hamsters growing up instead. My first cat was a black kitten that I named "Violet" which was mostly so my then 4 year old son could have an experience with a kitten. My first dog really wasn't my dog at all because it belonged to my 2nd wife and she had climbed Mt. Shasta with it. But, it didn't like me very much because when I came into her life she felt competitive with me for my 2nd wife's attention. This can happen in new relationships where pets are insecure when a new mate shows up for their owner.

So, what is interesting is my first real dog that was my dog I found at a Blockbuster when that company was still open in the early 2000s. He was about 2 years old and a combination of a Long haired German Shepherd and an Australian Shepard. My wife and I had an agreement that we wanted a dog and we both found a dog (two different ones) we wanted to adopt the same day. My youngest daughter then was around 5 or 6 years old at the time so we felt she could more easily handle a new pet. So, we wound up all of a sudden with two dogs.

These two dogs began a series of dogs we have owned now since around 2000 or so. These two dogs passed on between 2016 and 2018. One of the original dogs who was a Corgi Jack Russell combination passed away because of her Jack Russell side which is a very aggressive small hunting dog while getting into a fight with a raccoon over our outside garbage bins. She passed away about a month later around 2005. Since our young daughter was very bonded with this dog we soon bought a Corgi because we really liked the Corgi part of our previous dog which was a combination of corgi and Jack Russell. We got a Pembroke Welsh Corgi which looks sort of like these pictures. We also at one point got a Yellow Lab rescue as a friend for our corgi. He was about 95 pounds but when she passed away he soon died of grief of the loss of her too in 2018.

About

Description

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a cattle herding dog breed that originated in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It is one of two breeds known as a Welsh Corgi. Pembroke Welsh Corgis descended from the Spitz family of dogs. Wikipedia
end quote.

When our Pembroke Welsh Corgi passed away in 2018 we waited two years because of the grief of the loss of 4 dogs since 2000. But, luckily in 2020 just before Covid hit the world so hard we got a Blue Merle Corgi and this is what they can look like. She doesn't know Covid or any other problems and the joy of raising her as a puppy helped us cope with the Covid Mess and friends dying of Covid or getting Long Covid the last few years.

Dogs have brought a lot of joy and happiness into our lives and the lives of our children and grandchildren and friends.
