Intuitive fred888: Each place you live or visit on earth often has hazards you won't be prepared for

For example, Hawaii in the summer you have to watch out for Heat prostration of various kinds. If you are from California where the air is often very dry even in 120 degrees or more in places like Palm Springs you can survive this. However, if you get above about 80 or 90 degrees anywhere on Hawaii with 80 to 100% humidity this can often be harmful or fatal. So, you have to sort of prepare for this going to Hawaii so if you get sunburned you don't die from the heat over there. So, renting an air conditioned room or house or condo somewhere while you are there might save your life or the lives of those in your group. It's important to be prepared for the heat anywhere in the Hawaiian Islands especially July through about September of any year.

But, here in California the hazards are different than many places you might live or visit. People talk about Earthquakes but I don't remember many of the really bad ones since around 1994. There are little ones all the time all over the state but they don't usually do much damage if they are below a 5.0 or a 6.0. It's 5 or 6 or above that usually kills and maims people and really destroys property a lot.

So, the biggest things to worry about in California on most occasions are actually fires and Flash Flooding. For example, the flash flooding in Monticito which is a very rich area that killed somewhere around 13 to 25 people then.

The other thing to worry about is fires. For example, fires are happening almost every year in the summer and fall from about Las Virgines Canyon road on 101 heading towards Malibu. So, often people have to hide in the ocean so they aren't burned up in the Santa Ana Winds that blow off the deserts at high velocity which fans the fires towards the ocean. Of course this isn't the only place there are fires. There can be fires all over California. But, like most places the most fires actually happen on July 4th from people setting off illegal fireworks and some of these fires they cannot get out for months and months and this costs millions of dollars to suppress these fires.
