Yankee Doodle?

This was a derogatory song originally written by the British about American Revolutionary war Soldiers that "in your Face" Americans adopted as their own in response to the British. Americans have always had "Attitude" in this way. Thinking about Yanking your doodle says it all about what this song was really about.

This is why we are called the Yankees, other derogatory terms are Krauts, Frogs, Limeys, etc for other European nations which were often used by armies against each other when fighting. So, calling Americans Yankees was what the British started doing and then we took the song as our own and went into battle singing it and playing it on flutes and drums during the revolutionary war. So, likely at the time it was played to enrage our soldiers to fight better at the time. And it worked because we won the Revolutionary war and became our present Democracy in a Republic.

Here are the lyrics of Yankee Doodle
