I learned a new word today which is "Medicaine" which is a Mediterranean Hurricane

A Medicaine is a Mediteranean Hurricane. The one that hit Greece and flooded out villages there also hit Libya and killed 5000 to 10,000 people when it dropped so much rain that two dams burst and wiped out whole sections of cities with cars piled on top of one another with all the debris from the flooding.

begin quote from:

Mediterranean hurricanes or medicanes are therefore not different from hurricanes elsewhere. Mediterranean tropical-like cyclones are not considered to be formally classified tropical cyclones and their region of formation is not officially monitored by any agency with meteorological tasks.
