It is a similar problem of analysts not believing that Hamas (or Osama Bin Laden) would actually do what they did. I think the problem is often we underestimate just how crazy terrorists can be.
For example, who could have believed that Hamas would kill 14,000 or more of their people and destoy at least 1/4 of Gaza EXACTLY BECAUSE they did this.
It is unimaginable to people who aren't terrorists to imagine how a terrorist organization would think it's okay to kill off so many of their own people when Israel attacked them as a direct result of what they did.
So, the failure of both 9-11 AND the Israeli Intelligence failure is not realizing how crazy and desperate the Terrorists in both cases actually were.
Normal human beings simply could not imagine the depravity it took to do this heinous crime against humanity to begin with.
The problem now is sort of like 9-11 in that the revenge cycle could go on for another 20 years now too between Arab nations including Iran against the western World.
Also, Saudi Arabia and Israel were getting ready to sign a treaty to work together more closely and Hamas may have done this now to prevent that alliance between them.
So, both Putin and the terrorists of the middle east had the most to gain from starting this present proxy war between the western world and Arab Nations through Israel.
For example, America and NATO were fighting in Afghanistan against the Taliban for at least 20 years until Biden had our soldiers finally leave. There might be fighting caused by what Hamas did for the next 20 years or more too. This is how serious all this really is. Also, the existence of Israel as a nation is at stake like never before too.
