Air is 78% Nitrogen?

 My daughter was trying to tell me that her tire was low and that she couldn't put air into a Nitrogen Tire from Costco. I told her that Air is 78% Nitrogen to begin with. AIR IS 78% nitrogen!

So, why can't you put air into a nitrogen filled tire from Costco. The reason Costco uses Nitrogen is that Nitrogen doesn't expand and contract at different temperatures. So, the idea is that tires will last longer if they aren't being stretched all sorts of ways by Temperature changes. 

However, it's okay to put air into a nitrogen tire when you need to also. Now some purists are going to disagree with me. However, I grew up repairing cars by the time I was 10 to 12 years old in the 1950s (I was 10 in 1958). My father taught me how to work on cars because that's what father's did in the 1950s and 1940s and 1960s and some still are like this. Also, my best friend from about age 13 was a street racer and built up cars like 55 Chevys with superchargers and Slicks (which are wide tires with no treads for street racing for traction that are likely illegal on the streets for the most part now. But that was then and this is now.
