When you cannot see your hand in front of your face or past the hood of your car or truck or past the handlebars of your motorcycle it is basically better not to be driving at all. However, sometimes you have to drive anyway and this is where people often get into trouble because some people know how to survive dense fog and some people don't.
The biggest problem is people who are so fearless that they drive through fog when they cannot see through (possibly thinking it will end). However, this kind of fog when it hits the Sacramento Valley doesn't end until you either go towards the ocean or drive up into the mountains out of the Sacramento Valley. So, you cannot see at all when it's like this in Sacramento Stockton Merced. Fresno, Bakersfield and all the way north to Chico it shows on this video weather map from around 2 AM to 11 Am Tuesday morning. So, watch out for inexperienced drivers who are very frustrated by the fog. They are the ones often who get around 100 people killed when they drive too fast and hit someone really driving slow because they are so panicked because they can't see them at all until it's too late. Once someone inexperienced crashes into someone driving slow and panicking then almost anyone is going to crash into that mess which is why often up 100 people can die in various vehicles when this happens.
