Writing

Whether you write longhand or type into a computer or Vlog into your smartphone what you want to say it can be very healing to get your thoughts out in some form and then listen to your thoughts on that day or another day  1, 10 20 days or even years later. You come to know yourself better and this understanding can help you move more usefully and skillfully through your life and create better outcomes for you and all others in your lives.

Writing I believe started for me as an only child because I didn't have siblings to talk to about the problems I was facing in my life. I did have a cousin who was 5 years older than I who lived where I did for several years but remember he was always 5 years older than I too. So, at most he was like a 5 year older brother who lived in Glendale when I did from about 1956 until 1960 when he went off to college.

So, writing for me was always a way to try to understand myself and my world better which likely began in some ways with the death of my 16 year old cousin in Seattle when I was 8 years old. Dealing with the death of a peer (as a cousin) was hard for me at age 8 and so I began to write and doodle more on spiral notebooks that I also often used for School then. So, I drew pictures and wrote words to try to make more sense of my life.

Then in my teens I began to write music on the piano and Guitar because I was a singer like my mother who was an amazing Coloratura Soprano who used to sing along with Mario Lanza songs on her record player. I can remember this as far back as 2 years old in 1950 in Seattle.

So, music and lyrics and writing both poetry and prose have always been a part of my life and always helped me move forward in my life in helpful healing ways.

By God's Grace
