Why passing big trucks on the freeway on Autopilot in your car is scary?

It's because most if not all Autopilots in Cars where the car is driving itself allows the Artificial intelligence in the car to move right and left in the lane a lot. Now if no one is to your right or left this is okay because there is no one there to potentially hit because the autopilot is going to keep the car in whatever lane you are in.

BUT, when on a freeway when you are passing a Semi Truck that's going slower than you are this can become pretty scary if you are a good driver simply because it comes just too close the semi because of how wide the Semi is to begin with so you might have just a few inches between your vehicle and the semi truck and for me this is just too close for comfort.

So, my method of not freaking my wife out (or myself) is to turn off the self driving Autopilot for a few moments while I'm passing one or more semi Trucks. This way my wife isn't freaking out and I feel safer too.

So, on long straighter drives on freeways without a whole lot of cars it is much easier to let the car drive itself when it is safe to do this.

However, there are many people who can't deal with this and so never use the self driving autopilot feature that is on many newer cars and trucks.

So, if you don't feel capable of allowing your car to steer itself and drive itself you probably shouldn't do it at all.

Because if you don't know what could happen if you don't step in while doing this when you need to you might crash or worse. So, unless you have good coordination, good technical knowhow as well as nerves of steel, you probably shouldn't be using your Car or truck's autopilot to begin with.

Though you can separately engage the cruise control with braking or the automatic sTeering autopilot at the different times I prefer to have them both on at once if I'm letting the car drive itself on freeways where there isn't much traffic traveling long distances.

Good Luck with your Autopilot if you have one in your vehicle. Also, many car rentals have them too but be careful if you aren't very familiar with the car and the Artificial intelligence system in a rental car.

I'm not sure even I would try to use the autopilot in a rental car because too much could go wrong if you aren't familiar enough with how the autopilot features in your rental car or truck actually work.

It took me 5000 miles in our 2022 car before I was happy with how I interrelated with the Autopilot on one of our vehicles from California to lake Louise in Canada and back in the summer of 2022 in June.
