At 725 PM PDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms over Santa Barbara, southern Ventura, and western Los Angeles counties. The strongest thunderstorm was moving into southeast Santa Barbara county, where a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 8 pm. Storms were moving north to northeast at 10 to 15 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 55 mph, half inch size hail, brief heavy downpours, and cloud to ground lightning. Some rotation is being detected with storms, with a slight chance of these storms spinning up a brief tornado over the statement area. SOURCE...Radar indicated. ...THREAT OF THUNDERSTORMS AND ISOLATED WATERSPOUTS ACROSS THE COASTAL WATERS OF SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING... A cold and unstable air mass will continue to bring a chance of thunderstorms to the coastal waters through Sunday. Potential threats with thunderstorm activity include strong to locally severe wind gusts to 50 knots, small hail, heavy downpours, and dangerous cloud-to-ocean lightning. In addition, conditions are favorable for isolated waterspout activity through the weekend. In addition to the thunderstorm threat, wind gusts of 20 to 30 knots with hazardous steep, choppy seas will affect much of the coastal waters through Sunday. Small craft should stay in port during this period. If threatening weather is observed, mariners are advised to seek safe harbor.
