It was actually kind of exciting because looking out I could see everything was really getting drenched in a way only more tropical places get drenched. I noticed at the airport walking over to the rental car place at the airport that the cement walkway was sloped to the right and the same on the other side. I remarked to my wife that the only reason they do something like this is if there is a really lot of rain that can come down really fast somewhere. And last night the lightning and thunder and rain was coming down gangbusters all night long which was interesting. We also went to a Peruvian Restaurant called the Llama Queen which was a really nice restaurant for a Friday night dinner there in Austin. We had been about a month ago to a Peruvian Restaurant in Paia Maui, Hawaii we liked about a month ago now when we were traveling with friends from California there then.
But, it was amazing to see so much rain and lightning and thunder once again. It used to rain and lightning a lot in the early 2000s along the Northern California coast but not very often now. It also used to hail 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch hail a lot in the winter there too but neither ot these things happen much anymore. You might go 1 to 5 years and not see Lightning or Hail now which isn't at all the way it used to be in the early 2000s.
But, I also experienced two Tornado Warnings where over our cell phones it told us to take cover in a windowless room in our house one near San Francisco and one in Santa Barbara. So, things are changing in this way too now.
These were the very first Tornado warnings in my life in California by the way and I have mostly lived in California since 1952.
