Smaller Scorpions are usually more dangerous to human survival than larger ones

A friend of ours in Texas reached into his kitchen sink and didn't see a scorpion there which may have crawled up his drain pipe and into the sink.

It bit him on the hand and his whole arm swelled up and his lips got numb. The doctor said if he got bit again he would need an epi-pen to treat another bite from a scorpion.

I was bitten by a black small scorpion in 1974 at Hapuna Beach on the big Island of Hawaii when I lived there in Hilo with my wife and baby then.

I had trouble walking and had to drive with my left leg because it had bitten my right one. I couldn't walk well at all and my leg was mostly numb for several days.

Getting bit in the hand like our friend did things start getting more dangerous. Because your arms are closer to your heart and head and brain.

The fatal stings from a scorpion would be if you were bit on your head I believe. I'm not sure if you could also die from being bit closer to your heart either but that might be possible too if you were bitten by the smaller more toxic varieties of Scorpions.

The most common places to find scorpions in the mainland U.S. would be the Deserts of California through Texas. This would be where you find scorpions the most.

California through Texas deserts is where most scorpions are in mainland U.S.

Where do Scorpions Live? (Hint: It's Not Just Arizona!)
States like Arizona, California, New Mexico, Nevada, and Texas are known for their large populations of scorpions due to their largely desert-like environment and climates. Venomous scorpions can also be found, however, in Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Utah.

deserts
Scorpions can be observed in many types of habitats. However, most scorpions prefer deserts and semi-arid regions. Most scorpions hide under logs, rocks, boards and clutter. Some, such as the bark scorpion, rest on vertical surfaces like trees, bushes and walls.
