Surviving my life :)
Many people are workaholics. I never was because my father was and I didn't want to do to my children what my father did to me in working so much. It's true usually my father often took hikes with my mother and I on weekends or we traveled to the deserts of California which he loved or often to the Mountains in the Angeles National Forests around Los Angeles which go up to around 9000 feet which I think is Mount Baden Powell and Mt. Baldy which is 10,064 feet high. The highest mountain in Southern California is San Gorgonio which is over 11,000 feet high as you can see:
note: I climbed San Gorgonio in the Winter of 1969 when it was covered with snow on snowshoes. However, I fell through the snow and was hung upside down by my snowshoes inside of tall manzanita bush invisible under the snow. So, that part was NOT fun being impaled on Ironwood. But, I survived that too. These manzanita bushes were about 10 feet tall under the snow so very big ones. I slid down from the summit to the valley on a sheet of bendable greenhouse plastic where these Manzanita bushes were located then and likely still are. Also, the plastic kept my face from bleeding from blowing ice on the summit which was about 100 mph too. So, this climb I wasn't sure I was going to survive on many fronts but I did. But, I was only 21 then and often young men believe they are immortal but likely are not. :)

The TOPOZONE MAP states an elevation of 11,499 feet shown at the trail's end at the higher summit. The USGS benchmark on the summit reads 11,501.6 feet and is ...
Dec 14, 2023 — Those numbers didn't concern me too much but the altitude did - San Gorgonio stands at 11,503 feet. This would easily be my highest peak and ...
Although it may be steep in elevation gain (5,492 feet up!), it is the shortest of the trails, coming in at a hefty 8.8 miles one way. Because of the length and ...
San
Gorgonio Mountain, also known locally as Mount San Gorgonio, or Old
Greyback, is the highest peak in Southern California and the Transverse
Ranges at 11,503 feet.
It is in the San Bernardino Mountains, 27 miles east of the city of San
Bernardino and 12 miles north-northeast of San Gorgonio Pass.Wikipedia
