What is Romex Wire?
The most common Romex wire is a number 12 wire encased usually in plastic or rubber or some non-conductor for safety. It usually has a positive and a negative wire and a green ground wire. I would say most I have seen are usually Black for positive and White for the negative terminal incased in plastic or rubber or some other non-conductor. However, it isn't legal to install everywhere so you need to be sure it is legal where you live to use it. (However, sometimes the hot or positive wire is red and the negative or neutral wire is white also and usually the ground wire is always green. Most people connect their grounding wire to the metal box so people are less likely to get shocked from that outlet or box in the future. However, you can get shocked in many different ways so be careful even when you plug something into a plug or outlet you want to make sure you aren't touching anything metal and only plastic or rubber or another non-conductor even when you plug something in or remove a plug from a receptacle.
The positives of installing Romex is that it is much easier to install than EMT Pipe or Flex pipe (wherever flex is legal to use). However, if you want to change the wiring later like 20 to 50 years later you are going to have to rip out walls to change the Romex because you have to staple it in place. So, even if you didn't staple it down to studs in the walls you still likely would have to rip out parts of your walls to change Romex to more Romex or EMT Pipe or flex pipe where you have pull the wires through the pipe or flex.
However, if you use EMT pipe to pull wires through or Flex pipe to pull wires through you can more easily change the wires in the pipes whenever needed without ripping out your walls to replace the wires.
So, first you have to see what is legal to use (what Electrical inspectors will pass) in your city or county in the U.S. before deciding what you are going to use short term or long term.
