From my present understanding of life in this Galaxy this is actually very important. I for example, try not to kill even spiders and other insects. I find my life goes much more smoothly when I can do this. However, for example, this year Centipedes (or possibly millipedes) have been coming into our house so there must be a bumper crop of them. Since we don't want to be bitten by these things in our sleep or have them wander into our doors when they are open when it is warmer outside and bite us we tend to dispatch them. I have to be careful because often mosquitos I have to dispatch too. And I try to allow flies to fly out if I can too. Spiders are more difficult because often they are so fragile so I keep daddy Longlegs because they are the most poisonous of spiders (but cannot pierce human skin with their bite) so often if there is one in the shower I let it live to dispatch all spiders and bugs in our bathroom area. So, I have taken all this to a science of trying to keep spiders alive. I also put out all spiders that cooperate with me under plastic Glasses and they set up shop usually under our deck or up along our roof which gets rid of all sorts of bugs in our neck of the woods.
The other reason you don't want to be dispatching living things is that often they are not what they seem. They might be spiritual friends sent there to teach you something so you need to observe them like in the Asian Adage:
"If an Ant is your Guru Feed Him" (or her).
Because as a mystic (Christian Mystic) but Also Tibetan Buddhist I experience all life from a more animistic point of view which is that "EVERYTHING IS ALIVE" not just creatures of earth like man and beast and animals and birds and fish but also houses and cars and planes and boats so EVERYTHING IS ALIVE and deserves our respect.
When I move in a state of Grace like this by treating all life with respect and compassion my life becomes thousands of times better all the time.
So, in saving the lives of other beings you also save your own.
People say "Don't kill other people." Yes. This is a start. However, then you have to go to "Don't kill anything living" to have a really good life. Because the things you kill otherwise will curse you as they die.
For us as humans (or as any being) this is the real problem in this Galaxy and this is likely true in all Galaxies too.
By God's Grace
