I think owning land away from big cities might be one way to survive these coming years

But, you likely would need a well or water rights for that land and a septic Tank (away from your water source) and either a motor home or trailer or mobile home (if they were legal to put there) until you build yourself a more permanent house. These days buying remote land is easier (but not less expensive then it used to be). For example, I was able to buy in 1980 at 4000 feet without electricity with a beautiful view of Mt. Shasta with Cedar and Pine and fir and Oak and Manzinita bushes on it for around 8000 dollars. It already had a septic tank and a toilet in a shed which was going to work as long as it wasn't freezing outside at all. So, in the winters you might have to build a latrine or something in the snow (which could be 7 feet deep then) and recently where I owned land it was 12 feet deep until April or May I think it was the winter of 2023.

So, the price of land has gone up even without electricity wired in because Solar Cells are so relatively inexpensive now. A good friend of mine now passed away this year near the land I used to own out there throughout the 1980s had solar power and a backup generator for when it was stormy and a well and septic tank and lived out there since he built his first A-Frame on it in 1972.

Land out there now (2 1/2) acres without power now is likely 20,000 to 40,000 dollars without anything on it to start with.

However, that is less than you are going to pay for the average new car you might buy.

So, it's something to think about. Also, weather is changing everywhere so be sure to not buy land in a flood plain anywhere because whatever you have might wash away even in the desert if there is a dry riverbed near you anywhere.

People think that dry riverbeds stay dry but usually one or more times a year that (Dry?) riverbed is going to be 3 to 10 feet deep most places. So, even doing this once through your home or trailer or motor home or mobile home is going to wash it away. So, be very careful where you buy land for this reason.

But, generally speaking owning land is a wonderful thing especially if it is inexpensive enough to own it outright to begin with and then build whatever you want permanently there yourself in your spare time.

So, Good Luck, Because right about now we all need it if we are going to stay in this country much longer.

Several million people have already left the country for better jobs better places especially our best and brightest scientists who are still leaving every day for other countries now since January or February 2025.
