Made it to Mt. Shasta

After cooking a day or two in Lake Oswego and Portland we finally drove south to Mt. Shasta. The highest temperatures in Oregon we saw were about 102 Degrees Fahrenheit driving south. As we approached Ashland, Oregon we began to see the Thunderheads to the south arching up into the sky to the south of us where Mt. Shasta would be. We worried that we would be rained on when trying to unload our things into the Hotel room in Shasta. However, that was not really a problem so we bought some pizza to share with friends getting ready for the lightning and thunder show the storm was producing. However, when we got there it was raining to hard to stay outside to watch it all from their 2 1/2 acres of land and trees. So, we went inside to share pizza while it rained and lightninged and thundered all around us. Luckily there was enough rain coming down so I don't think any fires were able to keep going from all the lightning (at least so far). Then the power went out in their house and all over town because the lightning must have struck the power generation facilities in the area. So, we lit candles and continued eating pizza. Then I realized I had left my rain jacket in the room and only had the Hawaiian shirt and shorts and crocs for the heat but now I was wet from the rain. Luckily my wife had brought her rain jacket so she didn't get cold driving back to the room at about 10 pm last night. We were very tired after driving most of the day from Portland to Mt. Shasta and I basically laid down on the bed and passed out until around 6 am this morning and then took pictures of the sun coming up around Mt. Shasta which was very beautiful. I was really glad I wasn't camping up on the mountain as it was snowing up there last night even though it likely wasn't going to stick because it's summer. However, if you were camping and not prepared for what happened yesterday evening and night it would have been difficult up on the mountain.

So, it was a nice adventure yesterday anyway you look at it and livened up our lives a lot and we didn't get struck by lightning like many people I have met so that is good too.
