We were able to get our car diagnosed in Oxnard about what was wrong with our air conditioner and luckily the 1200 dollar (just the part) compressor for the air conditioner was still under warranty so at least the part (and likely the fixing of it) will be free to us as owners of the car and warranty. So, that part was good.
However, then I said: "Let's travel north at night so neither of us has to travel through the heat in Buellton or Paso Robles to San Ardo!"
MY wife said, "I'm going to drive the car with the air conditioner out and you drive the car with the one that has the air conditioner still working."
So, I realized if we left early enough it might reduce the heat and then we wouldn't have to travel at night.
As it was after putting relatives on an airport Shuttle to the main Los Angeles Airport early this morning we were able to load our car in Santa Barbara to drive north in 2 cars to the SF Bay area by about 11 AM Saturday.
This sort of worked at least as far as Atascadero where the heat jumped up to about 95 and peaked out at around 96 in Paso Robles and San Ardo before it slowly went down to the mid 80s in King City as we got closer to the ocean once again. But, my wife had to drive all this way with her windows down and get somewhat cremated without the Air Conditioner working. However, she isn't 77 like me and hasn't had my history of Heat Prostration several times in my life when I was 10 to about 35 being very active when it was too hot really to be that active in heat over 105 to 110 degrees or more.
So, I handled the situation by putting the air conditioner only on my feet and not in my face and partially opening the front windows of the car so I got enough fresh air but also could keep my feet and sometimes one of my hands cool enough to cool the rest of my body driving north.
It was foggy (high fog) and under 70 degrees until we went through the tunnel heading north on 101 just before you get to Buellton. Then it just got hotter until we got to Santa Maria and then once you get past San Luis Obispo closer to Atascadero it really heated up until at least San Ardo where the temperature then dropped from 96 degrees slowly down to 84 by King City.
So, we both survived the trip okay but the heat sort of exhausted my wife along with the drive.
But, all's well that ends well.
By God's Grace
