Why do they take down the Cables from Columbus day to Memorial Day?

They don't want people to die doing this mostly.

The weather after Columbus day is often wet ot snowy or icy and most people aren't prepared for this. I suppose people still climb this route (Maybe if they are allowed to) with pitons and ropes instead of the cables in almost any weather too as it is easier than going up the face.

However, if you are roped in you are much less likely to die but more likely to get a head injury bouncing down the mountain until your piton hopefully holds you on your climbing rope. So, if you are climbing like this this route (if that is still allowed) then possibly wear a helmet to prevent concussions in a fall because most climbers tend to die of concussions unless their ropes or pitons fail from slamming into the rocks and hitting their head violently against the stone. But, often the rest of your body can survive these times when you slip for one reason or another as long as your ropes and pitons and other equipment don't fail you.
