Different Climates

I was able to get away from the coast where it can be foggy high or low and for example at 1 PM on Thursday the temperature here is only 64 degrees whereas in Mt. Shasta where I just drove from yesterday it is now 87 degrees and in Santa Nella closer to the coast it is 86 degrees right now.

So, the increased moisture along with the only 64 degrees I realized at 77 my body is having difficulty especially in adjusting back to the moist colder temperatures after being at least 20 degrees warmer there any time of day when I was there than here on the coast.

So, likely it's going to take me a few days to adjust back to colder weather.

However, one thing I would say is that the altitude of Mt. Shasta does tend to decrease your weight because you have to breathe faster there and so your body has to expend more energy just to keep going at 3500 feet. I have mentioned to my wife about this but she (for the present at least) wants to be living along the coast because she grew up in a yachting and Sailing family in Santa Barbara and the SF Bay Area so she is very tied to the ocean in this sense.

However, it's also true that most of my life I lived around the ocean in SEattle and then in Los Angeles and San Diego a lot too. And as I get older the peace of the Pacific Ocean I find very healing especially while walking our dog along the beach almost any day I'm here on the coast any time of year.

Doing this any time of year is also more possible here than on the Northeast Coast of the U.S. or in Seattle because of the temperatures:

For example, these are the average temperatures and rainfall in various months here on the northern California coast:

September71° / 54°. rainfall 0 days
October70° / 52° rainfall 2 days
November64° / 47° rainfall 5 days
December60° / 44° rainfall 7 days

So, this often is a usual type of Temperature range along the coast north of Big Sur I would say up to almost Arcata and Eureka, California.

However, just remember that when it does rain in California it POURS and we might get 15 inches of rain in two or three days. So, very few rainy days but when they happen there are almost always flash floods because southern California has a lot of hills and desert areas.
