Evacuation orders and warnings issued as 17,600-acre Salt 14-2 Fire nears Monterey County
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is issuing evacuation orders and warnings for a fire burning near the border of Monterey and Fresno counties.
People living south and east of Parkfield and Coalinga Grade Road, north of Oak Street, and east of Joaquin Canyon and Table Mountain, in Zone MRY-G041A, are asked to leave their homes immediately.
Evacuation warnings have also been issued for areas south and east of Parkfield/Coalinga Grade Road, north of Oak Street, and west of Joaquin Canyon and Table Mountain, in Zone MRY-G04B.
The Salt 14-2 Fire began Tuesday and has grown to 17,638 acres near Jacalitos Creek Road in Coalinga, Fresno County. The fire has nearly crossed into Monterey County, northeast of Parkfield.
“The fire is located in a remote area with difficult access; running upslope in alignment with both the terrain and wind, and steep conditions are making containment challenging, requiring significant augmentation of both air and ground resources,” CAL FIRE said in a situation summary.
The fire is burning within the footprint of the 2017 Garza Fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
