Sunny and cloudy and presently 61 on the coast near San Francisco. I think the storm is coming in has to be a Pineapple express because it was 59 degrees at 6 am here on the coast yesterday morning. So, whether this is going to be an atmospheric River or not I had one of our housekeepers start up our gasoline Yamaha Generator that I keep in a plastic shed outside to prevent carbon dioxide poisoning especially during a rain storm. However, we may need it Tuesday Afternoon to late Wednesday some time unless the weather report changes.
They said much of the state might experience flooding of one kind or another. However, flooding has a different effect here than in Washington which is mostly dense forests and a lot of undergrowth. Here often there are oak trees and wild oats a lot except for redwood and pine Forests from about Big Sur North along the coast and pine and fir forests in the Sierra Nevada Mountains closer to Nevada. Also, because of the extreme differences in altitudes here flooding often means rock and mud slides too rather than traditional flooding of low lying areas (even though this can happen too).
Also, California is known for getting about 15 or 16 inches of rain within 3 days. "It's always sunny in California" is often broken by in the winter 15 or 16 inches of rain within any 3 day period. So, this is kind of normal and even though this will flood wherever this hits it's also how California seems to get most of its rain too over the years because this is what fills up our lakes and reservoirs.
For example, here is the weather report for San Francisco:
