Ano Nuevo State Park in California has a breeding colony of Northern Elephant Seals

However, they are really big and known to attack humans if they get too close especially to breeding males which are huge or too near pups even females might attack. So, usually the public only goes into this area with someone with a shovel to hit the males or threaten them not to attack this group of people. I have done this twice over the years with school groups on buses with two of my children as they were growing up.

Males standing up on their front flippers can be 6 feet or more tall so they are pretty threatening when you get up close to them and much quicker on flippers than you might presently believe.
The males weigh like 1000 to 2000 pounds or something like this so be careful.
