Remembering Don Ameche 🎬 Born on this date, May 31, 1908 Ameche first rose to fame in the 1930s on radio, becoming a familiar voice to audiences nationwide before making the jump to Hollywood. By the late ’30s, he was a leading man, starring in films like The Story of Alexander Graham Bell (1939). Through the following decades, he remained a steady presence across radio, film, and the early days of television—before appearing in Disney’s The Boatniks (1970), showcasing his classic comedic style. After a quieter stretch, Ameche made one of Hollywood’s great comebacks in Trading Places (1983), followed by an Academy Award-winning performance in Cocoon (1985). Disney fans would later hear his voice as Shadow in Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993)… a wise and loyal companion whose performance still hits right in the heart. 🐾 Don Ameche passed away on December 6, 1993, leaving behind a career that spanned generations and continues to be remembered today. ❤️ What’s your favor

They don’t come more “Wisconsin” than the AMECHES ❤️ The Ameche family, originally with the surname Amici, was a prominent Italian-American family based in Kenosha, Wisconsin. They are best known for two major figures: Oscar-winning actor Don Ameche and Heisman Trophy-winning football player Alan "The Horse" Ameche, who were cousins. Don Ameche (Dominic Felix Amici): Born in Kenosha, he became a renowned radio and film actor, winning an Academy Award for Cocoon (1985). Alan Ameche ("The Horse"): Born in 1933, he was a star fullback at Kenosha's Bradford High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he won the Heisman Trophy in 1954. He later played for the Baltimore Colts. Their roots are in Kenosha, where Felix Ameche (Don's father) settled as an immigrant from Italy. Jim Ameche, Don’s brother, was also a well-known radio/film actor! And it all started in Wisconsin… ⭐️
