Both a metal Car and a metal plane are Faraday Cages and protect people inside to some degree from Lightning bolts or in the case of a motor vehicle against 1000 volt fallen lines off of Telephone poles

For example, if you want to survive a fallen 1000 volt line that was fallen onto your car from a tree do NOT get out of your car and instead call using your cell phone for the Fire Department and the police because they are trained to save you.

A car or truck or any metal enclosure somewhat protects you from lightning bolts or 1000 volt lines from telephone poles if they fall on your car.
The car or truck is a natural Faraday cage and the Rubber of the tires is the insulator. But, if you stick your feet out onto the ground often you will die if the street is wet or snow is there if the 1000 volt line is arcing and spitting sparks or even if it isn't. So, don't get out of your car until the Fire Department or police arrive (unless your car already is on fire in the accident then all bets are off and unless you get out of your vehicle you are going to burn up anyway.

begin quotes:

The Faraday cage effect is a phenomenon where an enclosure made of conductive material blocks external electric fields and electromagnetic radiation. When an external field hits the cage, free electrons in the metal redistribute to cancel out the field's interior effects, leaving the inside completely shielded.
A quick breakdown of how a conductive shield redirects electrical charges and blocks signals:

How It Works
  • Electrostatic Induction: External charges pull free electrons in the conductor to one side.
  • Field Cancellation: The moving electrons create an internal counter-field that nullifies the outside electrical force.
  • Wave Interception: Electromagnetic waves (like radio or cell signals) induce currents on the exterior, leaving the interior space signal-free
    .

Common Examples
  • Cars and Airplanes: Metal vehicle bodies protect passengers from outside lightning strikes.
  • Microwave Ovens: The metal mesh on the glass door keeps microwaves cooking inside instead of escaping.
  • Elevators: Cell phone service often drops inside because metal frames block the incoming radio signals.
  • Specialized Enclosures: Sensitive laboratory testing or secure communication gear relies on Mission Darkness TitanRF DIY Faraday Cage Kit or commercial shielding tents to remain completely isolated from interference.
