The cost to build a Lucas drone in the U.S. presently is $35,000 a unit (which is a similar cost of building a Shahed drone in Iran or Russia as well

The LUCAS drone is basically a copy of the extremely effective wartime machine called the Shahed drone built originally in Iran but now built in not just Iran but Russia, Ukraine, Israel and the U.S. as well likely as many countries in Europe like England and France and Germany and possibly others. It is a very serious change in warfare which is winning the war in the middle East presently by Iran. As long as Iran can build these or Russia can build these this war cannot really end. As long as Ukraine builds these Russia's oil refineries will continue to be blown up. Already Ukraine has blown up 40% of the refining capacity of Russia to the point where they cannot sell refined oil products outside of their country. They ONLY can sell raw oil right out of the ground to be processed in other countries at present.

 begin quotes:

The production cost to build a LUCAS (Low-cost Uncrewed Combat Attack System) drone in the United States is approximately $35,000 per unit.
Depending on the specific hardware configurations—such as the integration of advanced satellite datalinks—the cost ranges slightly between $35,000 and $40,000, with broader estimates spanning $10,000 to $55,000 across different payload packages.
Cost Breakdown and Context
  • Manufacturing Contractor: The drone is co-developed and primarily built by Phoenix, Arizona-based engineering firm SpektreWorks. They initially received a $30 million contract for early production.
  • Design Philosophy: It is a highly expendable, one-way "kamikaze" strike drone reverse-engineered from Iran’s Shahed-136. It lowers costs by bypassing expensive stealth coatings or complex traditional avionics, opting instead for a commercial-style 215cc internal combustion engine and 3D-printed or foldable components.
  • The Strategic Math: At $35,000, the U.S. military deploys these in massive numbers to overwhelm enemy air defenses. It shifts the economic balance of warfare because forcing an adversary to fire a $4 million Patriot interceptor missile to destroy a $35,000 drone creates a massive economic loss for the defender. It is also a fraction of the cost of a standard $2.5 million Tomahawk cruise missile.
If you are interested, I can provide more details on the technical specifications of the LUCAS drone (like its range and payload) or how the U.S. military utilizes its swarming capabilities in active deployment. Which would you like to explore next?
