the night before last I had to close all the windows to keep the house warm enough. However, most of the summer I have been keeping one window higher in the house open with a screen on it to cool the house during the night when it gets above 70 since we don't have air conditioners much where I live because you really don't need them. maybe 1 to 3 days a year you might want one but most of the time no.
So, even on the hottest days we can close the shutters to our sliding glass doors and windows and keep the place fairly cool those days too. And the Hottest days are not usually in August but in September and October when the fog stops coming inland from the ocean on the prevailing winds here on the Northern California coast
