This is part of my research for learning about when the last small ice age was between 10,000 and 20,000 years ago in the Sierra Nevada Mountains

What might be interesting to know is that humans in California and Alaska and throughout the North American and South American Continent has now been pushed back to at least 20,000 to 30,000 years ago. It appears that because the ocean was 400 feet lower 11,000 years ago and before because of the mini ice age that people would have been able to easily walk across to Alaska from Asia on the Aleutian island chain or they could have traveled by kayak or sailboat too. The idea from Kayaks at all came from Alaskan Native American tribes too.

California's permanent mountain glaciers have never completely melted off in human history.
Glacial History
  • Continuous survival: Recent scientific studies show that glaciers in the Sierra Nevada have stayed intact for at least 10,000 to 20,000 years.
  • Human timeline: These ice masses survived past warm periods and have been present since before humans first arrived in North America.
  • Current status: While the glaciers are shrinking rapidly due to climate change, scientists project they will not melt away completely until somewhere between 2050 and 2100.
If you are asking about seasonal snowpack or ice on specific lakes rather than ancient glaciers, please tell me the mountain range or lake name so I can provide the right details.
